Recycling Information
There are four ways you can recycle:
If you purchased your appliance from a Platinum Partner, they will handle the recycling with a California-certified recycler, and provide you with the Certificate of Recycling Form.
If your retailer is not hauling away the old appliance, take it to one of the certified recyclers in the list below.
Check with your local utility to see if they have an appliance buy-back or pick-up program.
Check with your city or county about curbside pick-up on E-recycle or junk pick-up days.
Why You Should Recycle
A key part of the Cash For Appliances Program is to remove the old appliances from use and recycle their components. This is sometimes called de-manufacturing.
You cannot receive a rebate unless you recycle your old appliance with a California-certified recycler.
Here are some other reasons to recycle:
Recycling saves energy. The materials in a recycled appliance can be remanufactured into other products so less raw materials have to be used.
Recycling is good for the environment. Components in older appliances like freon or hazardous materials like mercury have a harmful effect on the environment and people's health. Recycling removes them from the ecosystem.
It's safer. Some old appliances can be extremely dangerous. Children have become trapped in abandoned refrigerators.
Illegal dumping is an eyesore. Appliances thrown away on streets or vacant lots are ugly to look at and potentially lethal.
The older appliance you are replacing must be recycled by a California Certified Recycling Facility. An updated list of Certified Recyclers from the California Department of Toxic Substances Control are available below.

Many appliance retailers are providing this service. If your retailer does not, you are still required to recycle your old appliance. Some communities will be doing curbside recycling during the rebate period. Check with your local city or county refuse service.
If your retailer is hauling and recycling your old appliance, they will give you the signed Recycle Form when they take your appliance away. If you are hauling the appliance to a Certified Recycler yourself, the recycler will give you the signed form when you drop off the appliance.
